I have several creeks on my property. I also have access to telephone poles. I am thinking about building a bridge using 2x10s on top of the telephone poles. What is the longest distance that I could span the creek without supporting the telephone poles from underneath? I plan to drive ATVs and a truck across the bridge.

I agree with the 16' or so. I would place poles side by side as wide as you want with no gaps between, then consider finding rough cut oak or cotton wood 3x12 or 4x12 and lag to the poles for a top deck.
The biggest thing to remember is to add either vertical poles driven into each back or pour concrete to create abutments. otherwise the storm water will take out your bridge each time it rains.

Old under ground gas tanks make fine bridges and last a lot longer than wood

I would be concerned about not being able to cross the bridge when getting a busy signal. May have to put a quarter in before you cross each time as well.

The problem is going to be limiting the load on these brdges ....two years from now you will be crossing with a large tractor.....

OK just a pickup: 8'-12' across, "side x side" (if the poles taper alternate end for end).

8' or less 16" on center double poles in the tire tracks.

Inspect after every storm..... ..

ATVs, no problem. Pickup trucks? Whats a telephone pole? 16 feet? ya, maybe run the poles on 16 inch centers and then plank it. That's assuming the poles are sound but if you fall through don't call me.

set the poles in the ground in an "A" frame style. When you set them put a 8" paver or stone in the hole to support the base. Then where the poles come to gather secure with lag bolts. between the poles at the top (where they come togather use a heavey pipe to keep them apart. Comeing down the pole on each side you place an X with a 2x 8 treated so the large a frame stays stable. from the center of the a frame hange down 2 chains one from each pole. then use the bottom of each chain to "hang" the middle of your bridge. This style should last for ever with a coat of paint or some type of wood treatment. This way the poles will not rot laying on top of the ground.
