I too am thinking of getting one going in south La. and was wondering about all things involved. how do you figure how many acres you will need and everything else, need a shed? I would love to have some particulars from all that care to share. We have rice fields down here and full of levees will that affect it? new to this and would like to get it kicked off here.any help appreciated and anybody want to pitch in with it? Thanks to all for everything...

It is amazing how much work can be done in a day when a bunch of folks chip in & help.Way back they would build a barn in a day, I still see where they do the same building a church in a day.....

I would like to do that here in Kentucky but it is hard to find any place to plow. Most crop ground here is no til. If anyone has a plow day within a reasonable distance from Louisville I would love to participate.

i have held a plow day at a friend of mines farmstead for 7 years now. it just keep growing every year. the woman get together an provide the dinner, usually cold meat sandwichs an chili, an couple of other types of soup. then a desert. for the evening meal i buy a hog an have a neighbor roast it right there where have the plow day. so you will be smelling it all day long. everyone brings a covered dish to share that night. what usually happens with most of them the men show up to plow an then the women show up to help with dinner an then come back with a covered dish for the evening meal. last year we had 31 tractors plowing an it was tough plowing, 200 plus bushel corn will do that, lots of trash. for the eveing meal we had well over a hundred people. the meal are surved in the machine shed down there. its gets a little chilly in the evening but we have a good time. johndeeregene

I would encourage anyone nearby to take you up on this generous offer. I went to one in my area and had the best time ever. I just don't like sitting around at the tractors shows that much.

Sounds like fun. I got an old garden tractor and 1 bottom that will chug right along, but it's too far from Ohio. One thing tho- why not get a food vendor like at farm auctions? Could raise some money for a good cause.

we are located in Boone county Ne between Albion and Newman Grove, ,,there is a threshing deal at Petersburg Ne every year called Rae Valley days so I dont know if another would go over,,but mine would be field work only,,no shows or exhibits,,just totally field work,,then everyone would stop for dinner,,and also for a lunch in the field,,and can plow as much as you can stand!!!!! As far as newer tractors Id like to stay early 70s and older,,and if you have horses, that would work too,,plows, discs, chisels, harrows, what have you,,I would do my best to make room for everyone,,,,billy

Billy I've just last year started to get round these ploughing days localy, furthest I've been is 30 miles .Just looked on the autoRoute , I'm 90mile from Liverpool UK, even thats too far let alone crossing the "pond". Found it to be way too costly

Oh ya, our Club has been hosting a plowday for 8 years now and always a good time. Some farmers don't like the quality of plowing that is done but if you can find a good spot people will come. And the meal is a nice touch. I always do that here.

I would recommend having plenty of cameras ready for all of the downright weird stuff that shows up.
