HAVE CLEANED UP AN ESTATE AND HAVE HAD A HARD TIME SELLING MOST ITEMS (TRACTORS/DOZERS) THIS SUMMER. HAVE NOTICED MANY ITEMS ON EBAY GET RELISTED DUE TO DEADBEAT BIDDERS. BARING ASIDE GEOGRAPHCIAL LOCATION EXCEPTIONS, WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON LOOKS LIKE MONEY IS TIGHT? BOOKS, COMPUTER AND OPINIONS VALUE AN ITEM BUT THE ONLY INTREST SEEMS TO BE FROM PEOPLE OFFERING HALF THE ASKING PRICE. GIVE ME SOME IMPUTE GENTLEMEN. DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY LUCK ON EBAY WITH THE HIGHER DOLLAR ITEMS?

If you REALLY want to move it.Try dropping your reserve or open price. I don't know what you had for sale, but I've seen a lot of ridiculous open and reserve prices.

Just when you think that people aren't buying, try going to an auction. Last Saturday, at a local estate auction, a 48 Harley in original condition fresh out of the garage sold for $54,000.00!
Next weekend there is a big private collection tractor auction here. It will be interesting to see what old stuff really sells for.

I've found that this is the wrong time of year to sell tractors and equip on ebay. I run about 20 items a month. Best months to sell farm stuff seem to be Oct, Nov, Feb, March. My sales for similar items drop off 10% per month on either side down to a low of off about 30% in June. Sent a gob of good IH stuff to scrap last week to get it gone. Freight is a killer right now with the fuel prices.

Say what you will, asking prices are sky high anymore and things aren't selling. I have people calling me to make them an offer, after I tell them they are way out of line on what they are asking. I think they just don't know any better. I love the estate deals, they get someone who appraises the equipment and gives them a price.
It is usually so far out of line that no one wants to make them an offer. Appraisers my Butt.
Also most people today can't come up with much over $1000 for a tractor anymore. They go for Kubota and Deeres on credit. Credit is easy and the tractors are much more user friendly. It is a changing world we are living in.

Here is my 2 cents...

Depends are what you are asking, what you have, and where it is located.

Ask yourself this question "How badly do I want this _____ _____ gone"?

I have seen some of the photo ads on this site. I still do not think an 8n is worth $4000. Regardless of how perfect the paint job may be. If noone buys at the asking price maybe the price is too high!

I agree on the 8n or an allis c priced at $5500 so what happens to all those tractors that are out of it?

The tractors that are overpriced stay with that stubborn person that thinks it is a goldmine. The get to look at that tractor everday wondering why someone doesn't buy it.

As for the others, they sell for what the market will handle. Supply and demand. No demand then prices fall. No sale without a buyer.

There is a bunch of good old tractors out there. If you were to ask me to price a given tractor, I could give you a dollar value and every one would agree that it was worth that, BUT, would I give that, no way, I've got all I want and so do most other tractor lovers out there. Now if you knock the price down real cheap, maybe we will bite cause we can't turn it down. What i am trying to say is, you got to find a buyer. Tractors are not like legal tender that we pass around.

Funny thing, every seller thinks that the buyers are scamming by only wanting to pay half of what you are selling something for. At the same time, the buyer thinks it's double it's worth. Point is, price is in the eye of the beholder. A tractor (or most anything for that matter) will sell in a given area for what someone is willing to pay for it. The buyer is really the guy in control when you think about it, after all he's writing the cheque.

Type in Hemi Cuda, camaro, chevelle, gto any brand of muscle car if it is the right model year people want you will see by those prices that money is not tight at all. I have sold stuff on there for more than I'd ever hope to get locally. I have bought some stuff reasonable and even cheap at times.Just have realistic prices and the bids will usually come in. I got screwed twice, both times I was selling rear engine riding mowers and they were being bid on by someones kids. These parents aren't keeping the passwords to themselves.I know if my boy got mine I'd be getting pokemon and yugo cards coming in from all over the country.I wish he did take an interest in mowers as I'd get him one. LOL

Joc,

I have been trying to buy old machinery on the ebay thing. I notice that the buyers are trying to get "dealer" prices for their stuff.

Heck, I'm patient. I can sure stand at a farm sale to buy at 1/3 those asking prices.

Allan

Seems like it all depends on several things. What you have, what folks want, price, location, parts fopr the item once they get it home, etc., etc., etc. Just have to take your time, feel out the market, then not care if you sell the stuff or not, and it will work out. Good luck, Harley
