Just read the post below. I know that we've seen the last of leaded gas here in North America but am wondering, is leaded gas still manufactured anywhere in the world? Maybe some real remote place where where they don't have the newer additives or maybe where they aren't environmentally concerned or controlled ?

100LL (100 Octane Low Lead) avgas has a significant amount of lead in it: 2ml/gal. It's called "low lead" only because it has less lead than the fuel it replaced.

Here in Mexico the gasoline is unleaded. Regular is 87 octane and premiun is 94 octane. The regular is running about U$ 2.20 a gallon and premium about U$ 2.60 in Campeche state.

Adding tetraethyl lead to gasoline was (and still is) the cheapest way to raise the octane level of gasoline. I remember when the US Military went to 115 octane gasoline for aviation. They didn't buy anything else. That gasoline had so much lead in it that you would see lead residue on your fingers when draining the sumps. (Also filling cigarette lighter at the same time-shot a flame a foot high-best for lighting cigars). Lead would show up in places never seen before. Like soldered spark plug electrodes, over-running Borg Warner clutches on helicopters that were lubed by engine oil, etc. I know that in any country not bound by environmental rules (read that third world) you will find leaded gasoline. At least for a while.

Israel, Italy, Australia for a few still dump tons of lead every year into the food chain from engine exhaust. You don't want to use leaded fuel anyways. It shortens engine life rather than extending engine life. Aviation fuel such as 100LL has just enough lead to cushion the over heated valves in an .
So unless you are cruising at 10,000 ft while powered by an air-cooled supercharged radial engine. Don't worry about it.

Aviation fuel has a lower specific gravity which will make the fuel bowl float ride lower. Aviation fuel is blended for low rpm long stroke engines. It doesn"t work as well in a 8000rpm auto or 13,000rpm bike engine. 100LL has a pump octane of approx 96-97 RON + MON/2. Last summer 100LL was the same price as automotive pump 94 octane.
