If you kill it on the spot, it'll dump, and... Can setup a cage (they are nocturnal), and walk towards it with a tarp or blanket and chances are it won't spray. Although aren't typically rabid, they do carry rabies. Cover it, take it out, either drown it, or shoot it. Illinois for instance says "drown it or shoot it". Many states don't allow relocating them becaus carry rabies, so gotta kill them, or put up with them. As a kid, some friends and I caught one by accident in a box trap. We were kids, so clubbed it and knocked it out (may've killed it too, but was long ago). We figured would "de-skunk" it and make a pet of it. Took it home, layed it out on the picnic table, and went into the rear with a pocket knife to "de-skunk" it. It didn't wake up, so probably was already dead. Bad move, we got the gland and ruined the picnic table, our clothes, and... Since was dead (then for sure), we tossed it into the burn barrel with the trash, and burned the whole kit and kaboodle. Worse move, it smoldered for a couple of days. The neighbors within miles were calling the parents and...you can imagine. We were all 7 or 8 at the time and trying to box trap a badger that had denned itself out in one of the corn fields, but got the skunk. A neighbor got the badger for us. Kids...how we lived, our parents will never know. Mark
