I just found an Oliver 500 in a field. metal is straight, and little rust. It is free but I am trying to determine if it is work getting.

It is SN: 100402G Based on this site, it is a 1960 and only 1700 were made in England.

Thoughts.

Ben

Believe they were a David Brown 885 in Oliver clothing. David Brown was imported by Case, which was merged with IH for awhile, but now they're with God knows who. Needless to say, parts may be a little difficult. Finding a parts man who has ever heard of them may be a little difficult. They're not a particularly collectible tractor, and I guess I would probably pass. Unless you need a "using" tractor, and its in great shape and really cheap. IMHO. FWIW.

David Brown is still in business and still does what it did before it built the original Ferguson-Brown tractor. They are a gear manufacture. The 500 Oliver is the 850 David Brown. They were new when I started with Oliver, summer of 1960.

I think they were actually built by David Brown
( one for Elmer on the Case forum? )

you are correct on the England part. I don't think they bring as much as a 550 seems though they were heavy and low on hp.
