Ok, I think we are off to a good start on the YT Mag festivals. I think a regional thing would be the best way to get the most participation, then those who don't mind traveling could go to other regions to meet other fellas too.
Seems to me that we need to decide on what regions to use. I was thinking NorthEast, East, and SouthEast, North Central, Central and South Central, and North West, West and South West as regions. If we had the regions spread out (i.e. we could have the 3 East region gatherings on one weekend, the three Central gatherings on another weekend and the three West gatherings on a third weekend.)
maybe guys could attend more regions if they want.

Other thoughts: No need to make it a tractor show, but guys who are local or close by could bring their iron; others could just bring pics or something. It should be a family friendly event; i.e. very limited alcohol.
Timing of the events should work into 1)Harvest/planting season should not be interrupted, 2)Winter months in northern climes would not be fun. 3) Should not interfere with holidays like Thanksgiving, Easter, Christmas, etc.

Can we coordinate with regional tractor shows?

Let's make it inexpensive, so as many can participate as possible.
Campsite as alternative to hotel, low cost eats, etc.

Those are the main thoughts I have filtered out, but I might have missed something important.
Please comment, this is a work in progress.

I think you have a great idea going. My 2 cents would be to hold this in the middle of the states so it is about the same distance for evryone. (Would not mind having it here in Michigan) Also, when you get this all settled, let Kim know so she can make an anocement. Keep us posted.

OK Brian, here's an idea. Have someone disign a bussiness card sized nametag with ytmag logo that anyone could download, add their own user id and print at home. Then they could wear it as a nametag when they go to shows or anywhere other ytmagers might be. Stores sell plastic nametag holders that could be used to hold the tag. Here's what mine looks like third party image
but I would sure change to one with the third party imagelogo if someone wanted to design one for us.

I think we should come up with a better way to advertise up and coming tractor shows. Use the shows (per Stan) to start with and see what happens.

Maybe another forum topic.

If you're gonna be there tell us what booth or tractor you will be standing next to or put up a sign like Stan said.

For example:

1941 John Deere B
Joe MD @ ytmag.com

Now if only I could have some time to get one tractor show worthy

Brian. If you plan on attending the Empire Farm Days in Aug. stop at the Finger Lakes Antique Power tractor display and say hello. I will suggest to the club that we might use our table space to gather info on people for a YTMAG event. The Steam Pagent in Canandaugia is another large gathering. Call me on my cell phone if you want-- 315-945-7138.

I"d be interested, but am concerned about all the "yuppie" talk. I wasn"t raised on a farm, had a friend that ran one, but don"t really know much about it. I"d like to learn more, but don"t like feeling like an outcast city type. I only have 4 acres and feel like I"d be harrassed as a "yuppie". Opinions?

I'm with DickL, don't worry about the ribbing you might receive. You might be a yuppie, might not. I don't see how it really matters one way or the other. Those that dislike you or resent you for not being a "farm boy" are few, and aren't worth fretting about.

That said, I sure hope you ain't a Deere lover. Most yuppies are. ;o)

Dave (CO): You need to find some thicker skin. Most all "yuppie" talk is intended in good nature with out hate involved. Those with actual hate in there hearts towards so called "yuppies" would not attend such and event as those people will hate any person that does not think like them and would be the ones out of place. Not You! After attending the Taler Board Gathering at Poverty Acres each time, I have yet to see or hear any one put down that it was not done in good nature. Most of the people that attend these types of events are eager to help people such as yourself to understand more about the topics they live. Wheather it be farming, tractors, horses, or even antique car events. Most everyone would be helpful.

First Taler gathering.

Thanks, I was hoping that was it, can't always tell with typed words. My place was broken off of a larger farm, and the person who was farming it at the time had a huge issue that a "city boy" was coming out to the country and wouldn't be able to handle manure smell, slow tractors etc. and would be gone before the year was up. I grew up within smelling distance of a feedlot, so they don't bother me. I know others share his opinion, and wasn't wanting to experience it again. Thanks for the re-assurance.

I think the fact that you are interested enough in farming and tractors to hang around the boards should be enough to make you a part of the group. If you analyze the "anti-yuppie" comments on the boards, its almost always in reference to some neighbor, etc. complaining about farming, and not about other guys on the board.

Pioneer Gas & Steam Engine show is July 15th through 17th. Might be a good start, just to see what happens. If someone is attending, and displaying, just put up a small sign. People could stop by and say hello. Start small and see what happens. Just a thought....Stan

Allen,
I could either pick you up in my 88 Cherokee with 184k miles, or my 98 Chevy truck with 129k. There aren't any Escalades at my house. Not color blind when it comes to tractors, I use a 1951 Ford 8n I bought not running and fixed to useable condition.
