David:
Live in north central IN. About 45 mile NNE of you. Have quit going to state fair do to walking dificulties. Never have had tractors there. Did show pigs there as a kid. And hauled horses there a few times back about 20 years ago.
Have never had any thing at Conner Prarie. Planing on being at the Sheridan Parade July 4th with 3. Then will be at the Tipton show with 3 or more then Portland.

David,

Tell me more about the show at Conner Prairie, please. I might be traveling that way this fall, but not sure. I worked at Conner Prairie Farm for a couple of weeks back in 1956, driving a converted schoolbus chassis with a big silage bed on it. We filled a couple of trench silos for two weeks straight, then they laid off several of us.

As I remember, the farm was about 1,300 acres in those days, and there were 30+ hired hands. I still think Mr. Lilly was using the place as a tax writeoff, but who knows for sure?

I saw a show on PBS the other night about the place, and I must visit next time I'm up "home" (I left Hamilton County in 1960).

I believe that the show we went to last year was call Country Fair there was a lot of steam engines, hit-n-miss, and old style engines along with tractors up to the Farmall 560 era it was alot of fun if you had something in the fair you got free access to the museum displays. My wife said she'd go on line and see what the stats for this years show will be and I'll let you know. David

Stan,You Neal's brother?Russell & Bernice's son? I live in Mudsock.Know where that is? One of my best friends still farms Conner Prairie Farm (not the museum part)or at least what there is left of it.You probably worked for Tillman Bubenzer at Conner? Was Don Heinrick in charge of the Conner Prarie hog department then?

msb,

Well, I guess I can run, but I can't hide...LOL!! You've got me pegged, for sure...Neil's brother, Russell and Bernice's oldest kid. Sure, I know where Mudsock is, although it's pretty hard to find any more.

Tillman Bubenzer was indeed the manager in those days, but I don't recall the Heinrick name. I don't even remember who the manager of the hog department was. I think my boss was a guy named Steve Camp, but I'm not sure. He was a year behind me in school, but I think maybe he went to work at C P at an early age and became a foreman. Last I heard, Bob Coverdale was farming the ground...is that your friend?

Drop me an e-mail at StanHuff@aol.com and give me a few clues...maybe I can figure out who you are.

Stan

David, I'll be at the state fair. I'll just visit things pertaining to agriculture though. Let someone else visit the midway and freak shows. Sorry I missed the Hendricks county tractor show this year. All my family lives around Danville, but I'm down in Owen county. Jim.

Fishers United Methodist.Bill Ethrington used to live right on US 40 west of Bellville. He sold livestock show supplies at home and the State Fair for years besides farming and working at Allisons. After his wife died,he met and married a gal up here.He has a daughter that is a vet in Wisconsin ansd a son who lives in Texas,I think. My uncle Bil has a son who lives in Plainfield.(John or Buddy as we call him) Buddy was messed up pretty badly in Nam,during the Tet offensive.Fell on a mine to save his platoon.
Amo? I think that was where my cousin lived.Roberta Jane Eggers York. She died from cancer a few years back.
Mom and dad were both born in Hadley.I have a lot of connections to Hendricks County.I was born there too, near Brownsburg. That was a long long 66 years ago.lol, bob
