Now this isn't eactly tractor related. But with the price of fuel these days, I am considering buying a motorcycle to cut down on fuel costs.
Going to look at equipment is getting costly. Might any of you guys have or know of an older 1500 cc machine around that you would sell? In Western , Pa. they, the local news, are telling us to get erady for $3.00 per gallon by August. Of course no one ever knows why. ?/$$$$

Like the others said a big tourer like that isn't going to be exciting for gas, especially a v-twin. A 900cc 4cyl Honda like I have will get good mileage, in C or K model will be quite comfortable, the F (Super Sport) is more of a crotch rocket. From the mid-'80s should cost around $1500 for a good one.
Another good choice is a Yamaha Virago. I passed on one last year, 1100cc for $800. Had high miles but I still should have bought it.

Great idea if you like to ride....but gass millage on a 1500 cc bike is not going to be as good as a small car...

I have a 1100 honda shadow. About 45mpg highway. Its more of midsize. Pretty good for most crusing. Some bikes only get in the 30's fuel econony. Bikes i enjoy riding, but as someone else said, Gas is the only cheap thing about them. THere is insurance, maintainence, etc. TIres only last about 5-10 thousand miles. Very expensive to install. On and on. However, you have a good arguement to justify it, Enjoy.

actually motorcycle fuel consumption is not much better than, and often worse than a small car. I have a bike and like it for many reasons, but fuel consumption is not an advantage.

*scratches head* Harley? Ride it like you stole it? Loud pipes?

My Honda CB900 gets 40-45mpg with the hammer down, 45-50 if I take it easy. My wife's Kawasaki 454LTD gets 45-60mpg depending on how much of a rush I'm in...

As the price of crude oil continues to go higher & higher, I believe it's time we cycled back to the horse & buggy. The big news today is a Chinese company made a bid for Unical Oil Co.

Actually, is a "state" owned company, which is the Chinese government, and isn't exactly a proposed buyout, but rather a hostile take over - sell at our price, or we'll force the price of your stock to drop, and we'll get you for much less. Oughta be interesting. Personally, I'd have to think is a national security issue, and is gonna have to be squelched. We'll see. We'll see.
