ok square baler other than the infamous ih 45 what is the worst problematic baler you guys have run lets include case oliver gehl mm allis etc.

i WAS BALING AND ONE OF THE FIGERS HAS BEEEN KNOCKED OUT OF LINE. i CANNOT SEE WHERE THE PROBLEMS LIIES OTHER THAT IT JAMS AT THE KNOTTERS. aNYONE KNOW HOW TO ADJUST. tHE ADJUSTMENTS ON THE SWING ARM ARE AT THEIR END.

I was stacking bales on the wagon behind the JD 346.The tractor happened to be the 60 row crop, one of the restored JD two cylinders getting a workout. At about 9/10 loaded the driver got too close to an overhanging tree limb and tried to make a panic stop. The more he panicked the harder he pushed that left wheel brake. The right hand was frozen in terror to the steel wheel instead of pulling the clutch. The driver had grown up on orange tractors……..... ..... ..... . The 60 was lugging down, putting hard and loud with the heavy load, climbing a hill and still running the baler. The PTO shaft was chattering as the driver "circled the wagons" in pioneer wagon style while under attack. As a bale dropped off the chute and dragged under the wagon . The waving and verbal “instructions” from the wagon didn't help much either.

We have always had NH's and have had many of them. Not sure of what numbers since we have had our 570 for about 12 years and I am only 25 but I think we had either a 317 or 327 that was a needle eating, loose bale making, and pto shaft twistin pile! Originally had the chute and we use a thrower to load our flat racks so when the added that it was too light on the tougue. They moved the left wheel back but still rode the tongue. The hitch for the wagons was way too short and we finally stretched it after the third or forth time it got bent and it never even hit a wagon. We used to have at least three pto end shafts to keep it going. First they told us the yokes were 1/4 turn out so we had several made to correct that but they twisted just as easy. Then it was too big of tractor (108 horse Case 1070) but that is the same one we used on the baler we had before, so we used a smaller tractor and same thing. Traded it on the 570 and been happy since. It has baled 3 cuttings on 300-400 acres a year for 10-12 years with a few small problems and not one twisted pto shaft.

Would it have been a 315 by chance. The drivelines were fine until you added the thrower. When we first bought ours we used a 6006 Deutz on it with no problems but then put the 10006 on it and couldn't keep the driveline in it. Went back to the 6006 and the problem went away.

The worst auto-tie baler I ever knew was one sold by Minnneanoplace (pronounced "Minny-a-no place")Moline in about 1950. It used up 36" of wire for the knots in each bale. 36" of wire for just the knots - when it did manage to tie a knot. The one farmer I knew who had one gave up farming over that absolute peice of junk baler.

ouch! assuming you mean moline they and cockshutt balers were never popular enough around this area to get an opinion on. I have heard some of the later moline balers were good.

I've been around about every brand of baler ever made, and I would have to say that the IH 45 is
probably the biggest piece of crapp that has ever been built. when they are tying and working good they make a shity looking bale.

Mine is my NH s78. If I put all the knotter adjustments in specs it won't tie a single knot. If I monkey around with the adjustments on the knotters, it might tie 1 in 50 bales. It also likes to eat needles.

Didnt think Id ever hear myself defend our old 68 hayliner but its baled more bales than Id care to ever see. 15000 a year for many many years. May not be alot for some of you "western" guys but hear in NE KS, thats alot of hay. All that said, I bale with a 276 now. Not too many bales, 1200 this year, rounds seem to fit the schedule better these days.

We had a NH in the late 70s. Traded a JD 24T on it. Can't remember the model but it was a sorry excuse for a baler. Worked all right in alfalfa but not in any grass or straw. Somebody had to ride on the back to make sure the knotters tied. We even had the factory personel out and they couldn't fix all the problems. Traded back to a JD 347 and have been JD ever since.

This goes back a lot of years, but when I was just a kid, the bailer didn't have automatic anything. The wires were poked through a divider plate between the bails. This takes two people one poken, and one person on the other side to tie the ends together. I was assigned the job of pokin the wires. Very dusty. Stan

We had a J.I.Case like that. It took 4 people in the field and more hauling. We had a loading chute on ours so one drove tractor, one poked, one tied and one loaded.

IH 50-T I cant remember it, but my grandpa and dad sure told me allot about it. They always said. 50-T stood for 50 troubles. I still have the books from that baler. I can see why.

IH 46 is the Baler-from-Hell. Dad had one that he got from a dealer after 3 other guys returned it. It would skip a bale every so often. Might do 300, or 5, or 54 between misses. Guess who had to ride the twine box and yell when it "did it's thing"? Hated that thing and automatically hate ANY 46's I see!

A guy called me just this morning, wanting to sell me an IH 46. YYYYYEEEEE UUUUUCCK! Dad's 46 was a ROYAL P.O.S.! The 45 he eventually traded for was WAY beter - never missed a bale (and I didn't have to ride the durn thing!).

Had an Oliver 60-t for a summer. Never could get the knotters to perform correctly. Also balanced on the wheels so that it bounced the tractor hitch around enough that it was working loose from the tractor. Sent that one packing - next owner was happy as a clam with it. Now have a 268 Hayliner, that has done pretty well by me.

it had to be the last years nh 570 that my stepdad ran into a tree we got it fixed but it didnt work right so we traded it in
