I'm a heavy fellow (350 lb) thinking of getting an older tractor with a belly mower to mow several acres of grass around my country home. (rolling ground in southern Indiana)
Are there any particular models or features that I should look for?

I have a Farmall A with the IH kit that includes the Woods belly mower but also, front end loader w/2 buckets, rear blade, 1 bottom plow and fork lift tines. I use this thing for all these jobs and attachments and find it very handy. Live Hydraulics were added to accomodate all this so I got levers all over the place.

8N works wonders around my place for mowing and a LOT more. I'm disabled (knees, hips, back), 6'7" and about 260. - MUCH easier to get on/off than the Super A.

Another point, you could do the same job on a standard Farmall A, or Cub/Cub Lowboy. I'm sure there are other brands that offer small utility tractors that would do the same job.

The "Super A" was updated to the model 100 in mid 50's, then later updated to the mod 130, then the 140. All are basiclly the same tractor; and should do the same job. At any given time there are usually several 140's listed on this site's "Tractor photo ads". Start by checking there.

At 6'2" and more pounds than you I use my Farmall Super A with a 6' woods belly mower. Does a great job.

Jerry,

Thanks for the opinion. Is it the offset that makes this a good mowing tractor for big folks, or is it some other feature? In this area, there don't seem to be many super A's on the market. Do some of the newer (numbered) models have the same features that make the super A a good mowing tractor?

I had a cub cutter on a Cub of coarse and hated it. I had to pressure wash the inside of my rear tires after every use.
