"Could you do a worse job."

I ordered a rebuilt carb for my F-40 the second wednesday before last - and it's still not here. That's two full weekends of mowing I'm not able to do.

I've been in the mail order business for 25yrs - my stuff is 'custom made' selling for about 1/3 this carb - and I'd have beaten you folks by a week!

I can't believe in 2005 it takes nearly two weeks to walk in the back, put something in a box and hand it to the UPSman.

...'last time you'll hear from me. Unless it's not here on Monday - in which I'll refuse it and hit you with a chargeback on my Visa for 'failure to deliver'.

Jim

Jim, Obviously you must not deal with many vendors or suppliers in your bussiness. Parts taking 2 weeks to get is not uncommon when you are looking for something that is old and or obsolete. I have ordered off this site before and have got nothing but excellant service. Did they tell you the carb was in stock when you ordered it or did you assumne they had it? Did you bother to call these folks and ask where the carb was at ot did you just fly off the handle and assume they were not treating you right? Sir, until you have all the facts on why your product is not there, you should not criticize. some times we as suppliers have NO control over parts supplies due to the vendors we buy off of.

welcome to the world of parts guys in reply to jim cancil, 08-12-2005 10:44:43
Howdy folks,

Now, just put yourself behind a counter, scatter a couple manuals in front of you and read this post....you"ve just stepped into the life of a parts guy. heh heh. I see this sort of thing all too often and it is usually not the customer doing the griping but someone higher up on the totem pole at work. Something goes wrong or something just isn"t done correctly and the first response is to fly off the handle and let someone know just how unintelligent or wrong they are. I just can"t see why folks don"t resolve a problem first and if that doesn"t work then get upset rather than the other way around. Most stuff like that is simple and could be solved in a jiffy. Often it"s a simple mistake. I had a fella order parts for a bushhog. He had a brush bull 840. I tore that parts book apart looking for an 840 and finally we (I said WE) decided to us an 84-1 since it was an 84" cut like his. The parts were totally different and he called askin to speak with someone who knew what they were talking about. I did not pass it to someone either. I had started with him and wasn"t going to quit till I had solved the problem. It turned out that the "brush bull" part of the name was factored into the model number in the form of a "bb" prefix in front of the 840, causing me to not be able to locate it through normal means. Simple fix, simple problem, he got the right parts in the end. Was there a need to insult my intelligence? No. Just be careful if you do choose to fly off the hook or get really hostile with people serving you (i.e. parts, etc). I have a coworker who gives you one chance and memorizes names and faces. His policy, if you act like a jerk you just earned a 20-30% mark up the next time you come in. Not everyone is as forgiving as I am or as patient. It"s a sad fact. Communication is the key though. Kim"s post reminded me of a part I had ordered through another supplier of antique tractor parts. It was a rebuilt carb for a farmall H. The fella just had to have it. It took a bit for it to come in but not a long time. Our company will most likely have to foot that 200-300 dollar carb bill because this fella has not come in. I have called him as well. Fun stuff. Well, I"ve harped enough. God bless.

Jim, I looked into this for you.

The rebuilt carburetor you ordered was not available and your credit card was never charged.

They attempted to call you several times but got a busy signal. When they finally got through, your answering machine apparently says to the caller "Don't Leave a Message".

They were trying to call you to say that a rebuilt carb was not available but if you had a core they could have it rebuilt, or they had a new replacement carb available.

I've asked them to send you an email with an explanation. The fault on the customer service end was they stopped calling after several attempts to reach you by phone.

Sometimes these old carbs are hard to find. I hope you get your F-40 back in shape for mowing soon!

Kim

Why don't you just jump up and down and shout? maybe it will make you feel better. The rule is if you need it yesterday it will get lost or damaged. Sorry you are having trouble but that's the way it goes pard. Most shippers are on the ball and UPS is fast 99% of the time. But I have had packages lost for weeks too.

I hope you have tried to resolve this with the vendor before posting here. Understand your frustration with the system but there may be other factors involved. Pete

You might want to keep in mind most mail order places do not stock anything and are at the mercy of the manufacture/supplier. I ordered a starter from a company in PA and it came from IN with someone else's name on the box.

You should try and get parts for new cars sometime. Been trying to get a lady a front license plate bracket for a 1998 Buick Century. GM in 2 weeks has changed the part number and backordered them ?

Forget about GM for that part. Just go down to the nearest larger salvage yard and pick one up yourself. It is the same thing and will cost you about 10% as much.
