OT 3 million gal spill polutes Black River

It sounds like this dairy is going to have to make some large changes to keep going (possibly relocated manure storage away from water with added damming to control spills - on their own dime). We've all seen being large/powerful has it's advantages; however, once the situation gets politically messy, the support tends to dry up (no Senator wants to be on 60 minutes explaining his/her support for manure spills)

They will get their act together - there is just too much political force against them.

As for the spills that you speak of, that's just what the media gets wind of. To my knowledge, there are over a dozen places along the Jones Falls up to the pump station at Ash Street where they have "emergency" sewage overflows dumping into the river. This occurs basically every time that it rains. The City of Baltimore has many common sewers still in service that carry storm drainage along with sanitary sewer. This is what causes the "spills". The other side of that coin is that since these peak flows are mostly storm runoff, the actual amount of harmful sewage is very low in concentration even before it is combined with the emense flow of the river during storm conditions. Nonetheless, I wouldn't want to swim in it.

Sometimes they work things out with the fellows as has been said. I agree anyone really pumping it into a waterway should have the book thrown at him.

That happened somewhere in the state too - fellow was storing his dripping pump & pipe when the inspectors showed up, he was trying to say it was an accident - nothing looked broke, the tube track went straight to the creek.... He was intially fined, I hope that one stuck & no deals, never did hear more on that one.
