You have to plug the carin to charge the 18 batteries. Do these people think that electricity is free?

It doesnt matter if it is a battery or gas engine, you still need fossil fuels to charge the battery, like coal at a power plant. We (the USA) needs to burn corn based fuels in our cars and trucks to reduce the amount of oil needed.

Media likes to stir things up. I don't believe a lot of what they say. Its not that easy or it would be happening. I think it will some day and I wish I could have a part in it if I could afford it. Its sort of supply and demand.
Wind farms can exist where I live if every one would pay an estimated 10 our present costs untill the production got cheaper. No one is willing to do that therefore the cost wont come down.
Its sort of building 10 bicycles that are special. They will be very expensive untill someone mass produces them. To mass produce them they have to have the clients there.
Its a merry go round.
I work on the Great Lakes with carbon black and ashphault and see the industry side of cities. WOW. Scary. Like a world of gigantic machines.
Then I go down into the engine room where the two 16 cylinder Electromotive Division Diesels slug back 14,ooo liters of fuel a day.
The stacks just keep breathing fumes.
I am part of The Machine in my line of work caretaking them fuel hungery monsters and I think I can justify it if I can participate in the development of a more sane way of transport.
Whoops O.T.
Back to the 250 mpg car
It will happen. But at a price $$$$

What a bunch of hooey! They're charging their batteries at home and counting this as "free" mileage. Maybe if you don't have to pay your utility bills. This guy probably lives at home with his mother.

This would be like if you were to drive your car for twenty miles, burning a gallon of gas, then siphon a gallon out of somebody else's car and drive home. You could claim you got 40 miles per gallon because you only had to buy a gallon of gas!

Headlines say 250mpg, but story backs it down to 80mpg. Still a lot of BS. I grew up with the "secret" and "hidden by the car companies" carburater that was supposed to give 2 or 3 times what it did.

Promises promises! I don't know which is worse, telling me it's possible or telling me "looky here". If we gotta wait on someone to tell the facts and cut the BS some of spending our money via grants needs to stop.

The reason this is attractive is a power plant can convert unrefined or minimally refined (ie low energy input) fuels at high efficiency. They can get almost twice the energy out of fuel as a car can. So even with the losses in transmission you end up with a net reduction in fuel use.

If power plants use gasoline and were as inefficent as cars our rates would be double or triple what they are.

Any have the figures on how many equivalent barrels of oil it take to refine crude into gas? It can be high!
