So I take the simple way to connect lights(directly to the battery). This simple method only lasted an hour or two as they slowing went dim as I wore the battery down.

I do have the operators manual. I tried connecting to the voltage regulator. The lights came on.... with the tractor off. Obviously still sucking in battery juice. How do I connect the lights so that they will only run off the generator and not off of the battery.

I did think of running off of the generator and not the voltage regulator but I had 24 volts(not 12V as the lights are).

Any help(or an explanation of what I don't understand?) our there?

Thanks...

The lights need to be connected so 1/2 of the load is on each battery.

That is how the factory did it, and you will have to learn enough about the system to hook your lights up the same way, for it to work. As set up from the factory, there are two power feeds to the light switch... (+) 12-Volts and (-) 12-Volts, one feed from each battery.

The 24-Volt split system uses a 24-Volt generator to charge two 12-Volt batteries in series, but the electrical loads are operated off of (+) 12-Volts, and (-) 12 Volts with respect to the tractor's chassis. For the system to work, the electrical load on each battery must be equal.

(Oh, yes, and QUIT trying to connect loads to the voltage regulator... You'll let all the $$$ smoke out!)
