Just how big is your check book and just how much do you want to stimulate the economy . And can you do a mile in 4 min then you had better pratice as you had better just let that one go to the killer pen and find a gear drive. even with a bad T/A.

You may have to replace an expensive hydro trans, but remember. You will NEVER have to replace a clutch, T/A, shifter linkage etc. Buy the tractor right, fix it right, take care of it as others on this post have recommended, and you'll have a fine, long lasting tractor. You dont say what model you're looking at. I would sure like to find a 1026 IH,had one for many years.

If the rest of the tractor is in good shape and you can buy it right it would be worth having. Keep in mind that hydro tractor's are hard to come by and a good one will be worth a premium.

I had a 100 hydro. The tranny almost quit pulling.Now...rebuild the hydro and the pump...$6-$7000.00.Not including labor...Is a 100 hydro worth $7000.00? Drive it till it's warmed up.Then climb a hill in high range..If it has the least bit of trouble climbing it ....RUN. If the hydro oil smells the least bit bad....RUN...Heat and not changing hydro oil is the biggest killer..... ...idontno

nothing like a Select o matic, the ford trany is based on Henry Ford's model T and the Hydro is all hydraulic fluid drive. But yes, they do wear out and are expensive to rebuild. I check around and find the cost of the rebuilt unit but I suspect several thousand dolars. Might not be cost effective unless you plan to keep and use for a long time.

If it is priced accordingly, and a hydro fits your needs, I'd suggest you buy it. The worst case with hydros is thinking you are buying a sound one and finding out you paid top dollar for one needing costly repair. They are VERY handy for low-draft PTO chores and loader work. Parts and qualified hydro rebuilders are out there.

We had a 656 Hydro. They are GREAT loader tractors. They also work great for running a small square baler where you want to adjust the speed on the fly. You didnt say if its a diesel of not. If its a gas, run away....been there. Its not pretty.

PaMike; If its a gas why the run away, I am also looking at the same unit diffferent location with loader and it looks like it came off showroom floor. they can't burn much more gas than 1650 oliver can they cause thats what I use now but have been getting the clutch hot due to all loader work with small bale grapple, thought maybe this hydr unit might be the ticket
