3.0 ohm coil, apply 12V. 1.5 ohm coil, apply 6V.

Charles,
I agree with John on what he said, I"d would check the voltage coming out of the coil going to the distributor. Mike

Charles,

Of course your coil is running hot. It is supposed to run hot.

As long as it is not abnormally bowing the bottom of the can from oil expansion, it is just fine.

Howdy, I had to push my way through these fuel whiners. I could have been here sooner! I'm not too familiar with Fords but I may be able to help. We had this happen at a tractor pull in South Dakota. Go through the points. Clean them up really good. Make sure that you have spark coming out through every spark plug wire. If you don't, you could have a blocked current through a couple wires. Check some of this stuff out and get back to me. Thanks and God Bless

Charles, I have no experience with or wiring diagrams of your tractor so can only hazard a guess.

Does your tractor have an external voltage dropping ignition Ballast Resistor by any chance?? It would be in series with and ahead of the coil and after the ignition switch.

Has your coil or any ballast resistor had any work or changes lately??

I ask that cuz if its a 12 volt system that uses an external ballast resistor and a 6 volt coil and ifffff ffff the ballast were bad or accidentally shorted or by passed somehow, the 6 volt coil would run extremely hot plus the points would burn up prematurley.

Of course, all else could be fine and the coil is simpy going baddddd dddd on you.
