Hi, I got a Cockshutt 540, finally got a brush hog, which needs the PTO. Got it hooked up ok, however there isn't much power to rotate the shaft. When I move the handle to engage, it slowly starts to turn, never seems to speed up much when engine speed increases. As soon as I get to the lawn portion (4-6" grass) of the yard it stops spinning. Any tips are appreciated greatly. Thank you, Bill. PS I did have to put 2 qrts. of lube in the PTO case, and it's still low, but I can see the level at this point.

had a big ford i forget the size, didn't like the tractor anyways, if i remember correct it was the pto clutch don;t hold me to it but, i think thats what it was, when i was pulling a 15 foot batwing it did about the same thing that your talking about but, i guess it could be a number of things though got out of fixin it by selling it to a dealer that said he had a market for it don't know if he told the people he sold it to what was wrong with it or he fixed it good luck

Had a cousin that had a cockshutt 30 and it slipped once. He fixed it himself. I think he needed a part and then some adjusting.
