Are ya ready for this one. A year ago a drunk ran down my mailbox. I chased him down, called the cops and they arrested him for DWI. He admitted that he hit the mail box. I got a subpoena in the mail that I must appear as a witness. This is on a Tue.. I called the Prosecutor and told him that this was nuts. I would miss two days work (I drive truck) at 150 to 200 dollars a day for a 40 dollar mail box. Guess what I have to appear in court. WHAT A BUNCH OF BS BUDD

This guy I used to work with, he had a similar problem. A bunch of kids in a beat up old truck used to run down his mailbox all the time but they always did it when he was gone or in the middle of the night so he couldn't catch them in the act. He kept fixing it and they kept wrecking it and calling the cops didn't help because the cops wanted positive evidence which he didn't have, only a hunch as to who it was. So finally he solved the problem in an imaginative yet effective way. He took a railroad rail, set it in 8 feet of concrete, then built an enclosure of wooden planks around it so it looked like a piece of old wood, then set the box on top of it, thus itt looked like an ordinary ramshackle rural mailbox, but Surprise!! Soon after, in the middle of the night, he heard a crash and some cursing, and went outside to find a thoroughly wrecked junker of a truck, and no kids to be seen, as they fled. Needless to say, the cops had the evidence they wanted and the problem never re-occured.

Sorry you're inconvienced, but in my 19 years as a cop I've seen it a lot. Now you have to decide if you want to punish this guy or not. What will make you madder- loosing a few bucks or watching the jerk walk away laughing at YOU?

If you drop charges now, the costs of court may well be charged to you. In my area, that is $105.00.

Man if this isn't a prime example of our justice system in action.... This Alleged guy allegedly hit your mail box, allegedly because he was drunk, and allegedly admitted to doing it.....Remember, he has a right to a fair trial before a jury of his peers before he can be accused of anything and his confession doesn't count because he can't incriminate himself and he was also drunk at the time and wasn't mentally capable of knowing what he was doing when he confessed..... Man what a crock of bull sh--...I say if somebody confesses their guilty. If they confess why do we then need to prove that they did in fact do what they said they did. That's like these news anchors watching a video of a guy robbing a bank or whatever, where he is plainly showing his face to the camera. Personally if you've got his pic then he's guilty, why wastemoney on a trial to prove that that was really him instead of his evil twin brother that recently returned to this country from BFE.... Personally I'd talk to the DA. Tell them your gonna drop your charges, if you pressed any, and that if they want to try him for DUI then that's their business. Obviously they did the required testing or they wouldn't have arrested him, so they don't need you for anything anyway. Not to mention you have to make a living and pay taxes to pay for this guys jail stay, the judges salary, the salaries of all the other assorted flunkies, and on and on and on..... ....MAN I JUST HATE STUPID GOVERNMENT

It's not the $40 mail box, but the Principal of the matter. If you try talking to the DA again he may be able to have the trail date rescheduled for a better suited time. But if you think thats bad try being a cop who has to cancel a vacation at the beach with the family (no reimbursement for expenses) to go to court on a DWI charge thats over 2years old, because the defense keeps getting the trail date rescheduled to suit his time schedule, and the judge threatens to charge you for failure to show if you don't come to court. Yeah makes you wonder why someone would waste their time trying to make a difference in the world when their treated that way. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!!

Next time it might be your kid, go get three or four hundred dollars worth of satisfaction and chalk it up to money well spent.

We had a kid that was driveing all the folks here crazy speeding . The law only had two officers for the whole county . So no control we asked if we could put in speed bumps but they wouldn't pass street code so we made drainage ditches instead across the roads .Solved the problem Sometimes you just have to be creative
