The elevators recieving corn here in SE Iowa rejected a lot of loads of corn the last two days because of aflatoxin contamination. Is anyone else in the dry areas experiancing the same?

Check with any area chicken feed mills. Most of them have the ability to put the corn straight into the mixer. Some of them down this way will take it and mix it right out of the dump bin. From what I have been told, the aflatoxin doesn't hurt chickens and they can use contaminated corn.

We haven't seen any problems yet here in the northeast. We screen every load of corn that comes in (250-300 tons per week) at work for aflatoxin and vomitoxin. 4 years ago we were buying corn by the railcar load from the midwest due to toxin problems here.

We had the same problem about 3 or 4 years ago in Nebraska when it was hot and dry. Testing was very inconsistent. A load would get rejected one day and the farmer would bring the same load in the next day and it would pass.

I nailed a driver for bringing back the same load the next day back then. While he was over at the office screaming at the plant manager the first time he was in with the load, I buried about 20 feet of bright yellow plastic "caution" tape in the load. Second time he came in, I pulled the tape out of the load in front of him and the plant manager. The load failed the second time also.
