Hi Guys,

Sounds like there is a load of livestock on the way so I spent the last two days getting the water works going.

Better go fetch some goldfish, I suppose. :>)

Well, you're pretty darn lucky to have that system working. Our lil' old farm has been without electrical power since last October. Seemed that during a new highway project, the underground service got cut...and then covered up with 25' of fill and a new 4 lane. Looks like I'll have to go out with my tiling spade and friction tape.
Looking at your place makes me kinda of envious.

Hey Allen, how do you pump water to your tanks, windmill, solar, or electricity.

Hi Marv,

This west pump is out in the pasture and is on an electric pump jack.

We just sank a digital variable speed submersible in at the yard/barn. Just got that one going today and it's still pumping a bit of sand.

Tell us a little about the variable speed sumersible. Does it us a VFD controller? What is the HP and how much do you figure the variable speed feature added to the cost? What is the make of the controller?

I have an 8" well that is about 35' to water and the well is 70' deep. It has a line-shaft turbine in it and a right angle gearhead powered by a gasoline engine. We only use it a few months in the summer. I have toyed with the idea of removing the turbine and replacing it with a 6" 3-phase electric submersible, maybe 12-15hp, dropped in the same casing with a VFD controller. It is located 1000' from the 3-phase power source.

Do you put goldfish in there to cut down on miskeeters or eat algae or what?
Dave

Hi Dave,

They help keep down the algae. No skeeters out here to speak of; too derned dry.

If you get enough of them goldies the ice will be thinner in those tanks in winter too :)

simple pleasures of life - watching those little goldies grow, and they make great tank cleaners too! Talk about surfa and turf in the tumble weeds!! Sounds like it"s all coming together for you.

Good luck and sound decision making,

Hi Mike,

Ususally things are pretty green thru the 4th of July. From there on tho, things just burn up due to the lack of moisture.

Consequently, the whole area has adapted with cool, short season grasses which have all gone to seed by now.

Just had some boys out setting a new well and in their trenching and so forth, they never did hit any moisture.

It is just a dry country. :>(

Allan,
In my neck-o-the-woods we"d call those hot tubs!!
Fill "em and let "em soak up some rays for few hours...

Looks good - now all you need is something that goes "moo"...

Got a load of them little heifers on the way huh? Whataya gonna do this winter when there is 2 ft of snow on the ground and the temp. is down there around 8 below? Don't look like there is nothing between you and the North Pole but maybe three strands of barbed wire. Good luck. Harley
