Hello guys. You all helped me with my Ford 550 Diesel motor a few months ago Thanks.! , Now I have a quick question about a 432cc 2 stroke engine I have. it is a 2 cylinder Robin EC442PM, twin 34mm Mikuni carbs. I adjusted my idle screws and needle jets, engine runs smoothly, but it can't get past 4500 RPM. The max RPM is 7200 and it should be comfortable at 6500. This is where the max HP of 57 HP is.
What do you think is causing the motor to not get past 4500 RPM? Could it be my main jets? Could they be blocked or too small?
Could it be the exhaust? I do not have the stock exhaust. Thanks
Andrew

Check your exhaust for carbon. Especially if you have a spark arrestor...

If this unit has 2 seperate carbs, you need to synchronize these two carbs, other wise one is always trying to either speed up or slow down the other. Used to have to do that on mutli cylinder/ multi carbs on motorcycles back in the 70's and I am sure that has to be done on these today. Been so long I cannot remember how we used to do it though, I think with some kind of a vacumn gauge.

2 strokes are really touchy as far as exhaust goes. It the eshaust is not just right, you'll never get you Rs up there. Have a small bike that has your problems.

Any sign of going rich or lean when she peaks out at 4500rpm? Loosing top end power usually points to a long, small dia exhaust system mad for low rpm torque. What exhaust gas temp is she running?

You wrote - "Could it be the exhaust? I do not have the stock exhaust."

It could well be that. You don"t say how the back pressure of your exhaust system compares with the engine design specs. You perhaps need to check, as 2 strokes are touchy in this respect.
