I have a Craftsman lawn tractor with a 16 horse power Kohler engine. Its about 5 years old. The problem was that it would run for about 15 minutes, cut off it and would not crank back up. If it set for about 10 minutes it would crank up as normal but shut down again after 15 minutes. I found that it wasn't getting fire when it first shut off but if you waited 10 minutes or so, the fire would return . I thought the coil was breaking down so I replaced it. Now, I'm not getting any fire. I reinstall the old coil but I'm still not getting fire. Can't see where I pulled any wires loose . I'm stumped.

I had that happen where it was the plugwires themselves.Run it with the spark tester on the motor when it starts to act up place the sark tester directly into the coil and see if the spark is strong. Then its the wires.

Im not familer with kohler but it sure sounds like the ignition module. I had a jd like that only it took and hour to quit. Put on the module and problem solved. It was mounted on the motor where it is hot so i moved the new on to a nearby place. My .02
