I got a battery that had been on a shelf in a warehouse .the battery had never had liquid in it.it had been on the shelf for about 5 years. then it sat in my shed for a further 5 years. I got it out filled with battery acid and charged it for 3 days. it worked fine for a few moths and then it just goes flat and wont hold a charge.
should I be complaining or is that ist life time

I believe only pure lead have an ultra long shelf life when dry (no acid). Starting type batteries have porous plates. The plates are almost a paste type consistancy.

I was under the impression that new batteries could be stored for ever as long as they were dry (no liquid in the cells)

So was I joe, and the link to this site seems to prove it. It sounds like the activation procedure is very critical for long battery life,if somthing went weong during activation it may have damaged the battery
