How Long Will It Last?

What a pretty day today. Makes a feller wonder just how much longer this 'summer' is gonna last. Kinda gettin' into borrowed time for this country.

Hung a new gate today and finally found out why the darned old barn has no juice: bad circuit breaker box. Too old, like me I guess.

Oh yeah, and the wife told me this afternoon that she thinks she bought "too much pony". Guess who just inherited the little guy..... ..... :>(

I hope at least tomorrow and Friday. I have a short 30 rod chunk of fence to build, and also to drive posts for 160 rods of high tensile fence. This is way to nice of weather for Nov 2 in SW IA. 77 degrees here today and me stuck at work. I am glad I have vacation days to use the rest of the week. Looks like a good square job on hanging the gate, and good for you putting a block for it to sit on, it will still be square in a few years if you keep that up.

The long stretch I am putting a fiberglass post every 30-50 ft, depending on the terrain with a 5"x8' wood post in the low spots. I got the 160 rods done today. Only 1 wire high tensile. The guy I am building it for will put the other wire on himself, later. He has about 1000 acres of corn left to harvest before that though. He is turning cows out against it tomorrow morning. (it is electrified) The short chunk will be standard 3 steel 1 wood spaced every 12 ft with 5 strands of red brand barbed. (Idrive all the posts wood and steel shaver driver #8)

I always like to set 'em on a block so that they aren't hangin' on those hinges.

When I get the feed bunk built, it will come in from the west at a right angle and meet there at the end of that gate and then I'll be able to have the gate be able to swing both directions. The gate will then only control the lane out to the pasture on top of that far hill.

Hope you get yours built 'fore the nasty stuff moves in.

Nice looking project. I've always had good luck with these self-latching models, as far as keeping a gate from sagging. Works pretty slick when you're trying to open or close a gate with livestock around. I agree that this non-normal nice weather makes you think that something has to be brewing farther on down the line.
