Due to the constant problem I have of lack of $$ I am going to replace the Struts on My wifes front wheel drive Toyota Van myself. My question is when I replace the Struts if I will be able to drive the van for a time before I get the Alignment or will I immediatly need to get an Alinment? Will changing the Struts totally mess up the Alignment?

There's no need for a realignment.

Here at work the guys have a magnetic base that has a caster/camber gauge on it stick it on the hub before takeing apart then set the new one back to same setting. See if the local parts store has one to rent or buy cheap.

I have not had a problem with changing the struts and not getting the alignment checked. Car drives the same, tires don't wear funny. Take a look at the suspension. Does the strut control caster or camber? I'm pretty sure that it will not affect the toe-in. Usually it is just the spring and the shock.

Aloha, Before you disassemble anything take a good look if it will change your alignment. Sometimes you can mark the parts you are going to disassemble so it will go on almost the same place. Usually you don't have to have an alignment right after, but don't wait too long and be sure to have one done. Tires cost money and after you see the wear, it will be too late. Oh, be very carefull when compressing the spring and take all the necessary precautions.

Yes. Monroe recommends alignments anytime replacement struts are installed. However, there are a few exceptions where the vehicle manufacturer does not provide alignment provisions, or where the alignment angles are not affected by a strut replacement. Examples include certain double wishbone, some modified type struts, and suspension systems which utilize shock absorbers. .....Monroe website....so...it depends on your vehicle.
