TYPE OF OIL HOW TO CHECK IT

I am whanting to know on a 4000 Industrial Ford late 50s or early 60s on the transmission , Hydralics,rear end. The type of oil and how to check to see if it is full of oil?

Craig, there is more than one tractor Ford called a "4000". And I don't think any 4000s were made in the 50's.

Assuming you have a four cylinder 4000 (1961-1964), there are three reservoirs: transmission, hydraulics and differential. The hydraulic reservoir is check with the dipstick on the side, while the other two are checked using pipe plugs on the side of the tractor, about 1/3 of the way up from the bottom.

The original manual said to use hydraulic oil in the hydraulics, and 80 wt gear oil in the trans and diff. Most folks prefer to use New Holland 134 universal hydraulic oil in all reservoirs, particularly in cold climates. This is what New Holland recommends.

You are right it is possible for the tractor to be in the early 60s. It does have 4 cylinders.
