Anyone ever bid a live auction online?

Found a tractor I've been looking for for a while in a Ritchie Bros. auction. I have someone that can go look at it for me but I won't be able to be there. They have a live online bidding setup where you can be in the auction over the internet. Live video and sound, bidding against people there, and others online. Anyone got any experience with that? Sounds kinda dangerous but aren't all auctions. Seems like I oughta at least be registered and see what it goes for... Matt.

All part of the 21st century farming. I was talking with the editor of the local paper about some of the changes in farming in the last 15 years.

In 1991 I bought bulls from Indiana Beed Evaluation, drove up there after work, spent all night at the sale and lugged a bull home. Had to take off the next day. 2001 (or 5) Still buying bulls there, never see them before they show up home except on video tape.

Tractors, buy and sell on ebay frequently.

Hay sales, 4 of my last 5 transactions were paid with a credit card through paypal.

Their website is pretty clunky. click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click click just to find one item. They should have one page with a complete listing for each sale and then they can have the other part too. If i cant be at a sale I'll leave a bid with the auctioneer if a can see the stuff ahead of time. If i cant see it i won't bid. Cell phone and live online bidding just slows things down. Reminds me of the auction service up here that had to go with a electronic wireless bookkeeping and the damn thing is down for 1/2 the sale.

i do it about two times a year with ritchie bros.. you have to set it up with them before auction with all your info. i use the phone they call me when the item i want comes up for bid or you can watch on your putter or on your cel phone i like cel phone best. they have people from all over the world bidding by putter or phone . this is year 2005 by 2015 all auctions will be on line big ones that is

The ones i've seen you have to pay in advance of the sale in certified funds to bid online.

It might be fun to try, but I am sure you would need to have a high speed internet connection. Those of us stuck with dial-up service wouldn't stand a chance.
