I know this is a topic that has been beat to death, but I am thinking of putting windshield washer fluid in my rear tires. The tractor is a JD 4600 with 17.5x24 industrial wide bar, with FWA. It's fine in the summer for field work and such but for snow plowing and loading gravel it would be nice to have some weight. I have a big counterweight for the 3 point but I like to have my back blade on for cleaning up ect. I do not want to use chloride or chains! Thanks in advance! Russ

If you have a loader that fluid weight is a must for counterbalance. Our local Ford dealer won't let a loader tractor leave the lot without it.They use washer fluid with no problems.

The last time I bought tractor tires (about a year ago) the tire dealer refilled the tires with ethanol. I still have the CC fluid removed from the old tires. Why worry about tire loading? This is common practice and well within the tires limits.
Why mess with washer fluid. Go to a tire dealer and buy the ethanol in bulk. Its just alcohol & water or you can add the water probably.
I don't think this will solve your problem with lack of traction in snow or on ice.

Bob,
Believe it or not but fluid in the tires does help a lot in snow, doesn't help on ice much. But shoot I've seen dozers slide down hills on ice.

Wiper fluid works well, I have one tire filled with the good old CACL and one with the wiper fluid. I don't see any differance in the 2. If you would like to know how to fill them easy I have a page from a 1935 JD-B owners manual that tells you how. Drop me an e-mail and I'll send you a copy of it.

Sorry if I didn't get to the real question! I was wondering if anyone had any problems with windshield washer fluid as tire load, tire damage, rim damage, ect. It seems pretty harmless on paint, rubber trim ect.

No..it'll work...pink antifreeze..rv stuff is good also. I have calcium...don't have a problem but I wish I didn't. It's just a bit heavier than windshield fluid.

Hi Russ,

I'm with bo, use the RV anti-freeze, propylene gylcol, also used as a food preservitive. I've used it in tires as a balancing agent without problems.
