Aftermarket lights?

I own a 1975 Simplicity Sovereign - System 7016 (#1690006). The headlight lamps have burned out and have apparently been out of production for several years. If someone knows where I can get my hands on a set, I would be most appreciative(part number is 172048).

My bigger question is: what kind of aftermarket headlight packages are available on the market? Can anyone recommend anything? The married men out there will understand me when I day that my wife already hates my lawnmower, so it is imperative that whatever aftermarket system I install on my tractor look decent. That is, I can't weld great big spotlights on either side of my toy. :)

Any suggestions for a simple headlight system?

Thanks,
Erik

Is there an OEM part number marked on the lamps?

The lamps/bulbs probably have a number stamped on them from which you could locate bulbs through sources other than the tractor manufacturer.

I put a set of off-road halogen lights on the front of my old Wheelhorse, and they look pretty good. I'd always wanted a hitch on the front of it, so a little angle iron and some welding produced a combination hitch and light bracket. Check your local auto parts store, WalMart, farm supply store, or wherever to see what's available that will look decent. Two 55 watt halogen lights lets me see where I'm going!

That's WAY over-kill for a lawn mower. Two 55W lights combined pull 9, almost 10 amps from an already too small charging system. Most of these old lawn/garden tractors only have 15 A charging systems so by the time you run the ignition, lights, and start the engine a time or two You have a dead battery. I put little chrome backup lights that take a #67 bulb I think it is. PLENTY of light for My night yardwork. In the last two weekends I've been out doing yardwork till 1 AM, and 8 PM. PLENTY of light for after-dark hours and they're not so bright they disturb the neighbors across the field.

Well....it may be overkill, but the old girl has plenty of battery, even after setting for a week or so between half-days of cutting. In addition to the ignition, starter, and lights, it has the electric clutch on the mower drive! I've used that system for two seasons now, and love the way it lights things up.
