Need to know what my options are on fixing the exhaust port on my K181 kohler out of my cub cadet 70 garden tractor. The threads are badly corroded. The pipe threads in but barely holds. Figured on finding another block but might fix this one if its possible. Was thinking about JB Weld. Thanks for your help guys! Mike

Go to a hardware store or plumbing shop that threads pipe. Have them make (thread) a pipe nipple about 2 to 3 inches long with one end with standard pipe threads and the other end with OVERSIZE pipe threads (most pipe dies are adjustable)- or simply cut the threads "short" so that they are oversize. . Screw the oversize threads into your port (after cleaning the port as well as you can) use a good "muffler cement" as a lubricant or as "pipe dope" at this connection. Screw a pipe coupling to the nipple and then the muffler into the coupling. If you want something that will last longer, have them make the pipe nipple from schedule 80 pipe. Good luck in your efforts.

What type threads are you working with? Maybe a new threaded piece will have a better fit. Can you tap it to a pipe thread and weld the
pipe thread piece to your part? JB weld will not work. Stan

Drill and tap oversize. Bush back down to factory size if you wish.

Heli-Coil it, and it will be BETTER than new, since the Heli-coils are SS.

Aloha, I doubt that JB Weld will work on the exhaust port because of the extreme heat (jb resin base). I would try a Helicoil insert first and if that doesn't work, remove the exhaust port (head?) and weld up the worn part and retap. Maybe you could weld a threaded flange over the old port? Someone will post other ways but start with the simplest and easiest first.
