The President of the Hoosier TWo-cylinder club built one

It uses an axle and is hard to balance he built it so it could be moblie and is but is not a real easy mover. it is good.

I would say you could make one out of a trailer just pull off wheels and set them in a block mechanism and put wheels back on to move it.

Here is a picture of the one SIAM club uses. It should be 9 foot wide to keep the wide tread tractors on it safely. A 2x4 works well for a pivot point.

I saw one made from bridge timbers. It was used at a thresheermans show, steam engines balancing on it.

Within the last couple years there was a pretty complete set of designs in Old Abe's News. That is the magazine put out by JICCA the original Case collectors group. That set of instructions had a movable set of pins made it so you could adjust the degree of difficulty. The one in the design was portable just needed to pile up a earthen berm.

Don't think there was any real magic to the project just use good sense, imagination and LOTS of iron if it is for the general public use like at a show.

I say lots of iron from personal experience. I built a loading dock for my local show when I was on the board. Caught a lot of flak for using to much iron from some of the board. I knew it would be used by everybody. One of them wanted me to use a old truck bed. Way to light and way to narrow. Wound up with a 12' wide dock with 4-14" beams underneath. In my not so humble opinion it has worked out fairly well until the jacks got messed up this last year. They are fixed now and hopefully the board will bring electricity to the dock so we can get things the way they should be.

Have fun building your Teeter Totter. Has always looked like a neat project to me.

jt
