I was thinking about using the pump and reservoir out of an old Tommy Lift to run a one way cylinder for a 3pt. on a Farmall A. I have one on an old pickup to run a hoist under the flatbed, and apparently it was much stronger than the pickup frame. Don't see why it couldn't be done.

I have an electric/hydraulic pump on my truck to run the snowplow hydraulics. Even with dual batteries, (diesel) there are times that alternator is fighting a loosing battle keeping up with the pump. Last time I had alternator rebuilt, I had technician "biggie-size" it. Putting out up to 125 amps now, and has been able to keep up with needs. Many tractor systems wouldn't be able to keep up with the needs, as they are designed to run only a few lights, and keep battery up.

Fellow here put a convertible top setup on a Sears Lawn tractor and it did o.k, haven't seen it tried on anything larger yet. You would need a fairly large unit I suspect to be fast enough.

Surplus Center sells a couple of these units. Gonna be in the $350-$400 range depending on whether you want a unit for single-acting or double-acting cylinder. Looks like they are in the 1.3 GPM area at somewhere around 2000 PSI. Be forewarned that these are going to draw a LOT of current (One unit says 160 Amps @ 1500 PSI) You will need some real healthy cables in the 2/0 area to operate the pump and a darn good battery and charging system to keep up with the current draw. Good Luck with your project and Happy New Year!
