Just wondering what it costs to run an electric powered irrigation system per acre in a typical year. Located in Northern IN. Thanks for any info.

I have 59 irrigated acres and last year and the power costs were about $11/acre to irrigate for 52 days running two 10 HP pumps at about 450 gpm and 45 psi.

Thank you, I heard it cost about $15/acre so your $11/acre is close enough to beleive what I heard.

It will depend on the motors that drive the system. How much amperage is being used by the number of motors.
As the others have said, perhaps the manufacturer can give an estimate per acre based on other systems. I would put in amperage gauges so I could watch the power being used.

It is going to vary a lot depending on the local electricity costs as well as climate.

It would be best to get specifics for your situation. The difference in 1 or 2 cents per kwh of electricity could end up being several thousand dollars difference overall.

FWIW, Nathan

I would suggest talking to a Valley, T&L, or Zimmstic dealer in your region. It may just be insurance for you. check with the guys at Agtalk. Link some sharp guys from your region.
