PC-7 available at most hardwares is more expensive than JB weld but you can work with it longer and its harder after its cured. It takes longer to harden (like over night) but its worth it.

Try some and see for yourself before doing the repair proper.
It might depend on age of product, but will depend on temperature, actual ratio of the two components, thickness of repair etc. Shaping - wet smoothing, scraping, filing, sanding are all possible options at different stages, so really depends on how you prefer to organise the job.

Let it set up and cure 24 hours. Clear sticky tape also works good to hold it from sagging and form it into place.

I repaired the rusted out O ring sealing surfaces on my Allis WD block with JB Weld. I ended up making a sheetmetal form or ring to hold the thick but still runny JB Weld in position while it set. It was workable for 15 or so minutes, then you felt you didn't want to work it anymore however it would still sag, therefore the form to hold it. I let it cure overnight before fileing it to final size.
