IF you're talking a small tractor with a white hood, then it's the old 'Brown. They were very good reliable tractors in their day. I found the hydraulics to be a bit quirky compared to the Ford's I'm used too, but still good old tractors. The biggest problem with Browns is the parts availability. There are getting to be a lot of parts no longer supported through Case/NewHolland. Steering parts was one item, and a fairly common problem with Browns.... So that 2000 deal might be a huge nightmare. Beyond that, they had one of the longest lasting, cleanest burning engines of their time. David Brown was a well respected tractor in my area in their time.
I can't see where you'd get an 885 Case IH with a 2255 loader for 2 grand. Sorry, think you've seen a Brown.

Is this a Case IH 885 (72hp) or an old David Brown 885 that Case put their name on after buying the David Brown company? I think that Case did that initially after buying the company. The DB 885 was around 45hp. The only reason I suspect this is because I went to the Case IH dealer to get an oil filter for my CIH 885 but said that I had a Case 885. The filter was not even close and I realised that Case 885 is not CaseIH 885. The case (David Brown) 885 is much older than a CIH 885 and $2K might not be much of a bargain in that condition.

I"m sure these is what you are calling a David Brown,it is about th size of a 8n ford, the loader has one small jack in middle of bucket to roll back, there is know paint on hood, all I could see was 885 looked like in black on front left side of hood.

Heres a Case 885 with a great bend loader. Says 43hp and they want $8,000 for this one on Fastline. Is this what it looked like except of course with a different loader?.

yes thanks for the picture,it looks just like it, very little differance even in loader, this one has no paint on hood or fenders, may be pitted to bad to fix,but tires, wheels, loader looks good,I thought 2000.00 was to much maybe not? do they bring that much 8000.00 like the one in picture?

Well if it runs and works good, you really couldn't get a loader tractor any cheaper unless it didn't run at all. The tractor in the picture is offered by a dealer and the asking price is $8,000. Bondo does wonders to fix pitted steel, and if you do a good job and sand it down real smooth, it will totally blend in after you paint it and nobody will be able to tell the difference. Sounds like maybe if your willing to do alittle fixing yourself you can save alot of money, but if it has more severe mechanical problems such as the engine needs an overhaul, then it's not such a deal, especially if you hire it done. Since it has 4 good tires, theres about $700 in savings right there.

Thats a deal!, a 75hp loader tractor for $2,000!. That would be a 2255 loader and if I had to guess I'd say it must have spent it's life in a feed bunker which destroys the paint. Now if it runs and works good, I'd grab it. Paint isn't all that expensive just time consuming. The complete grill for an 84 series ran me $300 from Case IH. The 85 series was the first to carry "Case International" after J.I Case bought out International Harvester tractors around 1985. Check to see if it has a T/A as it was an option on those, if thats bad, then that would be something more to fix and fixing those is not cheap. That price seems way too good to be true, if that loader is in good shape, the loader is worth that, however, if the tires are all bald, the T/A is bad, the motor needs an overhaul, etc... then I'd run away fast!.

Probably a Case-IH 2255 loader. I believe the 885 is about a 80 horsepower tractor. Made from about 1985 to about 1990, somwhere in there. Case-IH 885 was the replacement for the IH 884, and it's basic design traces back to the IH 574, ect. They're great tractors but I would be very cautious about buying one in the shape you describe. The price is about right if the loader is not cracked or welded on, but just remember, the repair bills on the tractor could rack up very fast.
