I read somewhere that Ford worked with Tekonsha to develop the in dash controller for their pickups. Other than that I haven't heard much.

Has anyone heard of a unit for the newer ABS equipped vehicles that functions similar to the older units that you plumbed into your hyro brakes so that the harder you pushed, the more power it supplied to the brakes. It worked by having a linkage attached to the brake pedal so that the farther the pedal moved the more power it supplied to the brakes. We've not been overly happy with the units that use a pendulem or a timer (what we have now) but we cannot find the company that made this other unit. I saw it in a magazine a few years back, but at the time we still had a 80's chevy with a plumbed in brake controller.

any thoughts?

The BrakeSmart controller has a sensor plumbed in the vehicles brake system.

I did a lot of research on the net about a year ago when I installed one in my Dodge CTD. A Brake Smart controller is supposedly the best but it is very expensive (about $300 with the installation kit). I ended up buying a Tekonsha Prodigy which is Tekonsha's top of the line (or at least it used to be). The Prodigy is about $100. If your pickup has the factory tow package and you get the correct harness with the controller then it is just a plug in and go deal.

I use a Tekonsha Voyager for towing a 25' 5th wheel dual axle trailer w/GVW of 7200# also have a flat bed 14' dual axle w/GVW of 7000#. The Tekonsha controller has a built-in diagnostic light which confirms a complete brake circuit which my previous controller lacked. Email if you need more info, Pete

I have a Tekonsha, not sure which model but it has the multi-color led that shows green for brakes connected, then yellow-red for how much breaking force you have dialed in.

It has worked great for the last 4 years for us and we have put a lot of towing miles on it.
