$1000 for a running 8N is usually a decent price. The real question is how much are you looking forward to doing work on it? You already know from the smoke that an overhaul is in your future.

The 2N in this picture is one I bought last week for $600. It doesn't run, but the engine is not stuck. I think I can get it running with a carb rebuild, some new wires and a tune up kit. But I might wind up with the same tractor you have...i.e. one that smokes. We'll see.

With that number she should have a front mount distributor to make her a 1948 8N. The 48`s were from 37908 up to and including 141369 serial numbers. At 1K I would buy it in a minute if she is all there.

There was a fad in the 60's to paint these tractors in the blue and off white of the current production of Fords then. Some dealerships would make a smokin' deal on a refurb like that t keep the shop work load up. So you can't tell much by the color.

The tractor should be red and tan or whatever, not gray. It might have an 8N engine but really a 9N rest of the tractor. Go to the 8N group and determine what you have. Rear hubs tell difference between. 2N's and 9N's have large bolt circle holding "dish" to the axle.
