Would you believe this... from the manufacturer.

I ordered the manual for my JD B.. a 1950 model.. styled, with box seat... cost 90$ for the print version.. and 45$ for the cd version 3 ys ago. Just get your SN and order one online... neat huh!

You can also still walk in a JD dealers store and ask for a filter for a B and have them reach under the counter and pull it out without telling them the oil filter number even..

The plug Van is talking about on the side of the tractor is where you check the engine oil.You will need to replace the filter, the large domed shaped cap, just ahead of that is the engine drain plug. The trans. drain plug is behind that domed cap. The trans is filled at the rear cover to just below the large plug in the differential cover.

For the transmission oil, there is a plug that is threaded into an adapter looking thing protruding from the trans case just under the flywheel ( I think, may be on other side under belt pulley). Loosen this plug and fill with oil (make sure you use good gear oil) till oil runs out of this plug. The oil fill plug is located on the rear of the tractor on the right side. It is a large plug, about a 2 incher i think. It was hard for me to find first time I looked for it.
As for the engine oil, I think it also has a plug like the trans case. Just find this plug, loosen it, and fill the crankcase with oil till it comes out of the plug. If memory serves me correctly, it should be about 5 quarts engine oil and 7 gallons gear oil in the transmission.
