I have read that a lye solution will clean the grease and grime off of parts, but I don't know how much lye to use per gallon of water. Any help will be appreciated!

Dishwashing detergent, the machine, powdered kind, also does a great job on grease and is probably a little safer to use.

I agree with Bob. The site he cites does an excellent job of providing information on the "lye gravy".

You can also use spray on oven cleaner. Get the strong kind - it's mostly lye.

Thanks Bob, I went to the web site and found just what I was looking for. Also good information on electrolysis cleaning.

Never heard of it, and I doubt that it would be too effective on petroleum. I use laquer thinner in a well ventilated area and away from any sparks of flame. Works great.

Lye EATS grease and oil.

Most traditional engine hot-tank solutions contain sodium hydroxide, to remove oil, grease, and paint.

Check out F-I-T's website for "lye gravy", and electrolysis.

The link didn't "take". You'll have to "cut and paste" this link into your browser:
