I was wondering if someone could tell me a bit about an AC185 with a 74 hp disel engine and fel. Does $6000 sound about right if in decent running condition? Thanks, Ted

it's the best tractor in that size range that AC made. or at least I think so.. I have a lot of hours on a 185.. and as far as that being a good deal.. well if it was me and I had the money to spend you bet I would buy it! Tim Shultz

Had a 180 back in early 70"s. It was a great tractor, if you want to do PTO work remember it is not truly Independant Live PTO. When you push the foot clutch down the PTO stops. You can use the Power director to stop ground travel and shift gears. Some had a hydralic operated pto clutch so you can start and stop the pto with out stoping ground travel and some did not (mine didn"t). Also make sure that the highest gear (7-8) is sound and does not jump out of gear.

The hydralics are really sound on these models and it"s a great engine, 301 ci if I remember correctly. Basicly the same as a 190xt or 200 with out the turbo.

If you use the power director as a clutch to shift gears in the transmission, you will end up with a tractor that jumps out of gear. They were not designed to be operated that way. Tractors that were operated correctly don't usually have transmission problems, while those that were ground into gear using the power director as the primary clutch are very prone to gear and shifter fork wear that causes them to jump out of gear.
