I am thinking about buying a John Deere 4430. The tractor will be used of some tillage, hay work, planting, plowing, etc. I wanted to find out opinions on these tractors.

Thanks,
Tod in Ohio

Had my '74 since '80. 10700 hours, original (light) rear end. No engine overhauls, no PowerShift repair, no hydraulic repair other than a couple load shaft seal replacements. Did replace some fiber washers in the differential. Uses about 5 gph on plowing 5-18, 24 foot FC, silage chopping. Pint of oil in 100 hours- been that way since '80.

Some of the early ones had some rearend problems, but this one is probably past that by now if it was going to be a problem.I own two of them and I really like both of them(1 Quad range & 1 Power shift), but a 4440 is a better tractor if the price isn't that much more.

we had one for quite a few years had no problem with it at all. the next generation were even nicer. an i would have to differ about it being more thirty then the 4630. we also had a 4630. it was a pretty good ol gal but man did it burn the fuel. it would burn 12 gal ahour. johndeeregene

Have had two of them, no complaints at all! For a small tractor I think it will serve you well>
good luck

Real good tractor. A little more fuel-thirsty than it's bigger brother, the intercooled 4630.
