Who is the brain child at Ford that specifies what coolant to use ????..What transmission oil to use in their Ford trucks ???? Get this , 2003 F-550 with 6.6 diesel and 5 speed automatic takes Mercon SP transmission oil.. Has anyone tried to buy this stuff???You can't buy it from a parts store.. Only available from Ford at a mere $ 4.40 per quart !!!!. Gold colored coolant that can't be mixed with any other type of coolant....They apparently want their cut of the parts business... Try to buy transmission filters from the parts store...Last I tried , not available... Sweet , Huh??

I drove a Ford Ranger for 13 years. The first time a headlight went out I discovered the grill had to be removed to change it, at least for the tools I had. I thought it was such a good idea of Ford"s that I never put the grill back in. And when anybody asked me why no grill I told them. Anybody want an almost new one for a "85?

I own a Ford Windstar. Dealer wants over $40.00 for a cabin air filter. Jobbers have them for 1/2 the price.

Thats why I drive a 1979 Ford. It's so easy to maintain any old monkey could do it. Oil change? Whatever is on the shelf will work. Oil filter? 5 bucks. Transmission? Well you get the idea.
Oh, and no computers or electronics to deal with either.
Dave

My nephew bought a 2003 f-250 powerstroke. Only place to buy filters are napa and ford. He said it cost him $80 to buy a oil and fuel filter. Air filter was $75.

Local Dodge dealer charged me $50.00 for a fuel filter, & almost 20 for an oil filter. I found a place on line called Geno's Garage. They sold me 1 air filter, 2 fuel filters, & 4 oil filters for around 75 bucks total.. Delivered to my door. & yes they were all genuine Cummins Fleetgard.. I bet there are places that sell Ford stuff at a reasonable price, too...

I would think that if the truck is out of warranty then it doesnt matter what transfluid you use, if it is petro-based fluid then buy that. You may have to do some research on the coolant and see what additives are in it and be compatable with the "Gold stuff" I have a Polaris 4 wheeler and the Polaris clowns say in the manual "Only Polaris Synthetic" well I put in Mobil 1 0W-30, runs fine since the oil change. Ford I think just wants your money.....and trys to scare you into buying their expensive oil.
