its called a 4L60E.if truck is in good condition, i would look at a gm SERTA remanufactored transmission, about 2000.00.i quit my job at a gm dealer after 31 years last may,as parts manager.some time in 2002 gm decided to many transmissions were going out because trans oil coolers were stuffed up at radiator so transmissions were over heating burning up the clutch packs.the new dextron fluid does not burn up till some were around 380 degres.a gm dealer must flush cooler system to get code from flushing machine to cover for what was 5 years or 50000 thousand miles, good deal if rest of truck in good shape.sounds like you smokes 3rd clutch to me.
