(cant get much help on the Garden tractor forum, so I am reposting here)

Hey guys, help me out here....I have 4 Jlarge John Deere tractors - best thing in the world....but when it comes to JD mowers (i mean 20 year old models), in my opinion, they aint worth a hoot. So, i have been buying Simplicity mowers all my life. The one I have is past it's prime and time to replace...been thinking about trying a 10 year old John Deere LX188. Local honda lawn mower dealer has one for $500. I dont know much about them, so please let me know what to look for when I check it out tomorrow. Any special places, things to look for? I hear they have a good liquid cooled Kawasaki engine.

Thanks in advance.
Mark

I'd stick with Simplicity. You know what you're getting there. Solid, solid, solid.

I've got one, and like it pretty well, it's almost small for my yard, but it works. The kawi, can be a little cold natured, but it has always started for me, and it seems to be pretty good on gas. the only down fall i have with mine is that somehow the front of the hood got hot and the hinge is a little messed up, so when you open the hood, it has a chance of falling off, but all i need to do is drop the cash for a new hood.
