Fuel Problems

I have a JD F953 mower that is having fuel problems. It runs fine on the right tank, but when I switch to the left tank it will run for a few minutes then sputter and die (the fuel tank is full!). I then bleed the system and it starts and runs fine for a few minutes, then dies again if left on the left tank. I replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump before I figured out it was "tank" related.

What would you recommend? Fuel line plugged? Bad fuel?

Are you sure you do not have a loose connection or a pin hole in the line? Sounds to me like you are sucking air somewhere.

The more I think about this, I am certain it is a faulty fuel line. I'll replace it Monday and I bet it will run fine.

My first guess is the fuel line is collapsing. Change the line and see what happens. Over time the line goes bad. The reason it will run for a few minutes is the fuel that is already in the filter and the lines. Once it uses that fuel you are done. If that don't work come back and we will try something else.

Hey Jaker,

I hope Rays tip works, if not I'll change the fuel line next week.

Thanks for the advice.

Is it possible the breather hole in the gas tank cap is plugged? Try running it with the cap off or loosem and see if that changes anything.

Thanks, Ray. I'll try it tomorrow and see if it helps.
