Getting frustra

Hi, Have a JD LX 188, engine seems to have low power and the oil is very thin from tons of gas in there....real runny.

Here are some things I checked:

Checked both plugs and there is spark there.

WHen I pull the right plug wireoff, the engine bogs down, when I pull the left plug wire off, the engine doesnt slow much.

Checked compression on both sides, getting between 80 - 95 psi....
Dumped all gas in tank and started with clean new gas, new gas filter.

As said, I have never seen oil so gassy smelling and runny, so I changed it.

Still cant get much power from the engine?
Do they normally run this way? What could be wrong - something in the carb?
Thanks in advance for your ideas/tips.

I assume that you have no smoke that would indicate a rich mixture? Also, did the plugs look fouled?

Don"t know if this is a B&S engine or a Kohler but my first suspicion would be a failed diaphram in the fuel pump that is allowing the crankcase vaccuum to pull fuel into the case. I would go over to the garden tractor chat area and post over there to see if others have the same issue. I bet you are not alone here.

If you want to pull the pump apart it"s going to be pretty easy to do so.

Post back if you find other issues as you go along.

Bob-MI,

That is a Kawasaki engine. It uses an automotive-type cam-driven fuel pump that is non-repairable.

Fuel pump is Deere # AM105567.

This engine has 2 coils and two ignition pickups. I would use a spark tester and verify that both cylinders are getting a HOT spark, as these individual coils sometimes get weak.

Could be a bad plug. Try switching the plugs between cylinders and see if the fault follows the plug. Or just get a new set of plugs.
