I pulled this scoop out of the weeds at a nearby farm today. Anyone know anything about it? Thanks!

My grandfather was a farmer, but he hired out to the CB&Q RR. with his slip scoop. A dollar a day for him and a dollar a day for his team with the scoop.

That is an honest to goodness tumblebug and was used for moving dirt back in the old days.

Good old slip scoop. If you look close on the sides you should see holes for where the handles go. With the handles you controled how deep it cut and also you contoled when it would dump. I've used one to clean out a pond before, wasn't much fun and the water sure was cold but when you have water some place you have to do it in some way so you don't bury a tractor. Still have it some place around here.

In our part of the world it's called a "slip". I moved a lot of dirt with one of them things and a team of horses. Then later my dad and I tug a big hole with one pulled it behind a Jeep. Dad drove the Jeep and guess who got to run the working end of the handles on that thing, yeppers ME.

We always called it a slusher. My grandpa used one like that behind a team of horses in digging the basement of the high school here in town. Glenn F.

i have one that my father used with horses in the 1940's. it had two handles on the rear and two horses were hooked on the front with double and single trees. to dump it you raised up on the handles. some oeople later used them with a tractor before the lift types came about.
