Now i am 14 and I rake, tedder, haul, haro, and other various things. I am getting to do more things as i get more experience and know what im doing a little more. I was just wondering when you all started.

Born in the 50's, all I ever new was farm life since I could walk. Was aways riding on the tractors or inthe ear corn wagons etc etc. Later years farmed with aonother brother,3000 acres, had over 500 head fats all time,300 some head sheep and fat hogs also. Chore chore chore. later years hauled grain also, ran corn sheller in the area. Later still doing same then took on moving grain Bins also. Now quit it all sold the equipment and rented out the land. Didn't know the pay could be so easy and way better than doing it yourself.I don't miss the 5Am till 2 am field days that we usually did.

Well, I was born in '80 and basically started when all farm kids do... soon as you can hold a pitch fork. First tractor driven was a Case 1070 raking hay at 10 yrs old. Grew from there slowly. Was driving tandem grain trucks at 14 and doing all the tractor driving by then too. In 1998 after graduation I took over all the bean drilling and got the keys to both the main grain hauling truck and main bean combine, a NH TR86. Wouldn't give it up for the world.

Born in 79 grew up helping and playin on the farm. My dad was getting out, going broke. Cut back to about 100 acres plus cattle and CRP in early 90s. I went to college they told me there was nothing to come back to on the farm. Bad idea, of course I had to prove em wrong. CAme back in 2000 workin for a neighbor, picked up a few acres in 01. Now I have more but still not enough to make it yet. Maybe I shoulda listened to my parents?!?!?!

1969 when i was 8 - helped Grandpa on his farm till he passed in '71, then worked on the neighbors dairy farm till '76.
In 2003 I bought my Grand parents homestead. No implements left so I started buying and re-learning. I think owning farm equipment is like owning a boat...the happiest times are when you buy it, and when you sell it. I'm not ready to be that happy yet though.

1941 at age nine working the summer for an uncle. Helped Dad on the family farm until 1951 when uncle sam called for me. Never went back to the farm. When I left Dad had to get a tractor to replace the horses. I now just play with my old tractors. 1951 MM BF, 52 MM ZA, 53 MM BG and 57 MM 335 utility.

Started farming for my dad when I was pretty young. I started on a Deere 4040 and a hay baler. Then just started on newer and different equipment. Bought my farm two years ago at the age of 21. Loving every minute of it.

Cant remember when we wernt farming, picture in 41 shows me riding the draft horse while Dad just walked behind the plow. lol. In 48 I was farmed out to a dry land wheat rancher. Mostly did chores all summer but started driving a d6 cat pulling a combine that fall. In 42 I drove the cat, and hauled the grain to town in an old Cheve truck. Those were the good days, or seemed like it. Thought 30 was old. Ha--

I was born in 42, my dad had been farming a lot of years before. I helped my dad a lot, but started chopping weeds between bean rows when I was able to handle a hoe. Can't remember when dad started me on the tractor, but it was a AC Model M pulling a spring tooth harrow. Dad farmed until the middle 60's.That is about the time I HAD to go work for my uncle (sam) I didn't farm my self, but do mowing and discing for other people now. Stan in calif.

Rented 60 acres of corn and beans when I was 16. But helped dad as long as I can remember.

First tractor drove was R MM hauling manure after loading it by hand at the age of 8 or 9.

If I loaded it I got to spread it so man did I load.

Farmed the 60 acres with dads 966 and 856 in '73.

Farm a 1000 acres of corn and beans today, but the machinery is much bigger.

Gary

I grew up on Main street in a small town my uncles had a dairy farm and used to use me a cheap labor. Little did they know what kind of monster they were creating. I started to rent my father in laws farm in August of 2000 at the age of 24 with 30 dairy cows, 2 JD 730's, a JD 830, a JD 50 and a bunch of rusty machinery. Almost 6 years later I've have bout 60 cows a few different tractors and own about 30 percent of the farm.

I grew up watching a 1950s TV show called Modern Farmer. I'd get up every Saturday morning at 7AM and immediately became glued to the set. Guess I was 9 or 10 at the time. Pretty odd for a kid from the NYC suburbs.

Anyway, my fascination with farming never left me but I got tangled up with another career and never actually started, at least not yet anyway.

Now 45 years later and retired, I happened to discover this YT tractor site which, thank goodness, seems to be the final push I needed.

Already have a 1956 Case tractor ready to go. Never ever too late.
Good luck to you.

1978 (I was 11), my dad taught me how to drive his new 990 Case/DB. Started raking hay that summer. Moved to the 'big time' in 1981 when he bought a new 5600 Ford. Started running the round baler the next year.

Bought my own place in 1987. Been at it ever since.

started running the 766D when I was 7 years old, didn't think it was work then and still don't just wish I could get ahold of enough ground to farm and support my family and not have to work for some one else. Have run many of different tractors since then but still prefer my old 766D any day. David

I used to think it was work. Well, guess it was back then 'cause nothing was easy.

But now, 'tis nothin' but my playtime. :>)

Drove a Ford 960 when I was 7, learned to drive. Did a few little things that year, but nothing on my own.

When I was 8 I would put in 3-4 hours of plowing in a day, with an IHC 300 & 2-16 trip arm plow.

Still have all 3 of those pieces. :)

I grew up on a farm, but didn't really seriously think about farming until Dad had a stroke on May 12, 2004. Last year was my first year seriously farming.

What'd I start with? Dad's diesel stuff. Basically: 1 White 4-150 1 IH 1086 1 IH 756

and several smaller (gas) tractors that didn't do much field work.

So... You've heard of that game, "You don't know Jack"? Well, that's me. I'm here to learn!
