Ever notice how the neighbor always has the best equipment to work with! I hardly dare get the ol' New Holland out of the shed...or this guy will die from laughing.

Pull it out and put a "Paid For" sign on her and go to town proud. We live in a society that people feel having the biggest, baddest , and newest puts them higher on the pedestal. Then again the guy may be farming right and making good profits and is just as financially secure as some of us. Hats off to both of you then. The new trend around here is getting sons/daughters NEW vehicles when they get there license. Not ma and pa's , their own! sets em in that lifestyle the rest of their lives. I cant imagine living without cash in the bank and owning only about 10% of what you have. To each his own.

people who have all new equipment....... in reply to Rauville, 05-23-2006 09:08:23
Them folks are just working for the bank. Sure it's nice, they don't have the breakdowns that the guys with older equipment do, but are they making any money for retirment?, problably not. However, most of these guys own many farms and older equipment would be very difficult to keep going for the amount of work they got to do in the amount of time they got to do it. And since farmers of today bought farms that will never be paid off in a lifetime of farming anyways, I suppose some more debt wouln't be too much as long as they can keep making the payments. How they save for retirement is just what their farm is worth in the end when they get out of farming and sell, so if they paid off a million dollars on their property loans, then thats what their worth. They're making their banker richer than they are though. However, if say the bottom fell out of the real estate, then they would be worth practically nothing since they bought now with the prices so terribly high.

Ya Rauville I know what you mean. I just now came in from "clipping" the pasture with a New Holland 1050 9' cut mower-conditioner, pulling it with one of my M's. The guy over the holler was spraying his pasture with a three point sprayer that probably cost more than my tractor, and had it mounted on one of them AGCO-New-Holland Ford something or others that I know cost more than all my machinery all together. But you know what? My cows are just as happy as his are and they bring the same amout at the salebarn, and I know I had more fun than he did, so what's the point. Harley
